Safina, the founder, is a high school student who has always been drawn to the places where movement and healing meet. Growing up with a passion for wellness, surfing, and alternative therapeutic practices, she discovered early on how powerful the ocean can be for the body and mind. Every summer, while volunteering at a surf therapy camp for physically disabled youth in Southern California, she witnessed how the ocean freed these children.
Despite a rise in both mental and physical disabilities across the country, access to unique therapies like surfing remains limited and highly regional. There is a lack of awareness about unique forms of therapy, especially in areas outside of Southern California.
Ocean Campus changes that. It allows more people outside of Southern California to get the healing benefits of the ocean.
In Northern California, Ocean Campus introduces elementary school kids to the basics of surfing through a camp-like atmosphere. Profits from these surf camps are used to fund free pro-bono sessions for children with physical and mental disabilities, providing them access to the transformative healing qualities of the ocean.
Ocean Campus does more than teach balance on a board. By offering private lessons to fund pro bono sessions for youth with disabilities, Safina is building a model of inclusion and access that reflects her belief: real change starts not with grand gestures, but with bold, intentional action in your own community.
